ABOUT

The Vietnam Files was founded in 2025 by Molly Haines, an award-winning community journalist turned communications professional. Her work has appeared in newspapers around the world and in publications such as Kentucky Living. She previously served as editor, writer and graphic designer for the grassroots publication, Honky Tonk Times, as well as for a tourism magazine based in Owen County, Kentucky.

Her interest in the history of the Vietnam War era began at an early age, sparked by stories shared by veterans in her community and a deep curiosity about the social and political movements of the 1960s and ‘70s. Throughout her youth, she often sought out books, documentaries and firsthand accounts that offered insight into the war and its impact on American culture. This early fascination grew into a lifelong passion for preserving personal narratives and exploring the broader historical context of the era.

Preserving the stories of the Vietnam War is vital to understanding the full scope of American history and the personal experiences that shaped it. The firsthand accounts that make up The Vietnam Files offer invaluable perspectives that go beyond textbooks, capturing the emotions, struggles and resilience of those who lived through the conflict, both at home and abroad. As time passes and the number of surviving veterans and eyewitnesses dwindles, safeguarding their memories ensures that future generations can learn from the past, gain a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices made, and engage thoughtfully with the complex issues surrounding war, service and national identity.
